Iran’s players were furious at full-time after being denied a late penalty in their costly Group B defeat to the USA. Carlos Queiroz’s side put in a spirited second half display as they looked to fight back following Christian Pulisic’s first-half strike that put USA 1-0 ahead at the break. As a result, Iran have been knocked out of the World Cup after picking up just three points during their Group B campaign. They’ll now head home and will be watching England and the USA in the next round as the two nations take on Senegal and the Netherlands respectively in the round of 16.
