Well, that was eventful! The north London derby always throws up entertaining encounters as Arsenal overcame a spirited Tottenham team to win 3-2.

Inside the first half, Mikel Arteta’s side were 3-0 up, cruising and causing Ange Postecoglou’s players all sorts of issues.

Two goals from corners and a brilliant finish from Bukayo Saka was enough for Arsenal to boost their Premier League title hopes, with Gary Neville labelling one individual as a ‘little nuisance’.

In these big games, you want to start well, showcase your strength, but also demonstrate tough character and the Gunners did exactly that.

Yes, the ending wasn’t what Arteta would have wanted, but they still saw it threw and put the pressure back on Manchester City in the title race.

Some have decided to question Saka and if he is a ‘world-class’ player, well, if he guides his boyhood club to the title, then he can have the title above his head.

Against Tottenham, Emmanuel Adebayor, who played for both sides of the divide, stated that he was ‘on the top of his game’, as he told Premier League Productions (28/04/24 at 2:55 pm).

The former striker was critical of Ben Davies for continually charging forward and leaving space in behind because it was playing into their opponents’ hands.

That is Postecoglou’s way, he wants his fullbacks bombing on and charging forward. But against Saka, it proved to be a disaster because he got himself on the scoresheet.

Bukayo Saka v Ben Davies

"We talked about this before the game that if they leave and push both of their fullbacks in front, then it's very difficult for them," said Adebayor. A player like Saka on the side, you know what a different player he can be. Give him space and he can do whatever he wants to do.

"A player with his quality, if I am playing against him, I am telling the fullback to stay on him. Right now, he is on top of his game and playing his best football.  But Davies is moving up front all the time. Davies isn't going to be the one to score for Tottenham to win this game, so he has to stay in position, have Bukayo Saka and that control. That's what they aren't doing and it's going to make life so difficult for them. If you allow Saka to play with quality with one-v-one. We see how he makes that goal look so easy. Trust me, it's not.

“Bukayo Saka today is one of the best wingers in the Premier League and maybe in Europe. You can’t give him that space. You knew how good he is and what he could bring into his team with Arsenal. Why you allow him to have so much space to punish you?”

Arsenal win at Tottenham again…

This is going to be a horrible feeling for Spurs because, for the second season running, they have watched Arsenal turn up to their backyard and claim three points.

Spurs only have themselves to blame because they didn’t make a great start and their problems from corners reared its ugly head.

Tim Sherwood highlighted how Guglielmo Vicario was ‘targeted’ during the game and it ended up paying off because the away team gobbled themselves two goals.

For Arsenal, it’s party time for the next 24 hours before they turn their attention back to trying to win the titles.

As for Spurs, another London derby awaits them on Thursday night. This time against Chelsea.
