Chelsea are set to submit a £20m bid for a player Pep Guardiola says will be ‘world class’, according to a recent report.

The West Londoners endured a topsy-turvy season but found some rhythm towards the end, winning four on the bounce.

Though, that wasn’t enough for Mauricio Pochettino to keep his job and now Todd Boehly is in the process of identifying his replacement.

That said, club chiefs are still working hard behind the scenes on potential signings, as they ready a £20m proposal for a goalkeeper.

Chelsea ready £20m bid for James Trafford

Chelsea are readying a £20m bid for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, according to Alan Nixon and Ciaran Wiseman.

Having suffered relegation to the Championship, Trafford, who Cole Palmer says will become ‘world class’, is expected to attract interest from a number of Premier League suitors, with Newcastle United mooted in recent weeks.

Chelsea are understood to be in pole position to land his signature and Burnley are keen to make a profit on him having outlaid £19m last year.

The Blues view him as a potential number one despite the emergence of Djordje Petrovic.

Chelsea need to focus on appointing a new manager

Despite not having a manager in post, Chelsea continue to be linked with a number of players across the continent.

Surely, until they have a new man in place, the transfer business has to be placed on hold, as Pochettino’s successor may not want some of the rumoured targets.

It seems like a risky transfer strategy but evidently, they have a recruitment team in place who sign players for the manager, rather than the other way round.
