Report: 'Incredible' former Rangers man unlikely to make Ibrox return as Wolves prepare to swoop

Wolves want Michael Beale and have made the Queens Park Rangers manager their top choice to replace Bruno Lage.

Lage was sacked at the start of October after a disappointing start to the new season.

A 2-0 defeat away at West Ham United proved to be the end for Lage and Wolves have been searching for a replacement.

A deal for Julen Lopetegui couldn’t be done and Wolves have pivoted to other options, such as Rob Edwards and Peter Bosz.

Wolves want Michael Beale

Another name in the mix is QPR boss Beale and it looks like he is now the main man for the Molineux job.

The Athletic report that Wolves have made Beale their top choice and are now expected to make their move imminently.

Beale does have a release clause in his contract but the matter is complicated by QPR playing against Cardiff City tonight.

Wolves won’t want to rock the QPR boat before that game, but it now feels inevitable that Beale will end up moving on.

It’s understood that Wolves have been blown away by Beale having already compiled references on him.

Beale, 42, was a Chelsea and Liverpool coach in the past before becoming Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Rangers.

The pair won the Scottish Premiership together before leaving Ibrox for a move to Aston Villa in November of last year.

Beale’s reputation as a coach landed him his first managerial job in June as he became the new Queens Park Rangers boss.

Beale has won seven of his 15 games in charge of QPR whilst losing just four times, earning praise for his style of play at Loftus Road.

The Kent-born coach is seen as an exciting and progressive option for Wolves as they move away from the Portuguese model.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon has reported that Rangers would fancy bringing Beale back as their new manager but with Giovanni van Bronckhorst still in the job, Wolves look ready to pounce.

Beale has been hailed as ‘incredible’ by Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez but it looks like he will now be managing one of Villa’s biggest rivals as his relationship with Gerrard takes an interesting turn.
