The Talent Was There – Paul Heckingbottom Hails Sheffield United Star

Ndiaye joined Sheffield United from non-league side Boreham Wood in the summer of 2020 and last season he made 30 outings for the Blades, helping them reach the Championship playoffs.   This season, Heckingbottom has deployed the midfielder in a more forward role and Ndiaye has responded to the change by scoring nine goals while assisting twice in his 21 outings.     Ndiaye earned a spot in the Senegalese World Cup squad due to his impressive performance and the Sheffield United boss revealed that finding a proper role for the 22-year-old was important to impact his game.   Heckingbottom stressed that he had no doubt about Ndiaye’s talent when he took charge of the club but admitted that he taught the Senegalese international the tactical side of the game to improve him.     When asked about what changed Ndiaye’s game, Heckingbottom told The Athletic: “We’ve found a role for him.   “Taught him the game.     “The talent was there, it was just about teaching him the game.   “When I came in, I had to go after the young players.   “They were nowhere near the level, in terms of the training and how they played.   “Application, too. Nowhere near.   “Within a few days of working with Iliman, he’d responded.   “How he plays now, and what has made everyone talk about him, that’s what he started doing.”   All eyes will be on the Sheffield United star to see whether he can make an impact for Senegal in their 2022 World Cup opener against the Netherlands today.   The post The Talent Was There – Paul Heckingbottom Hails Sheffield United Star appeared first on Inside Futbol | Latest Football News, Transfer Rumours & Articles » Football - » Features | Inside Futbol - Online World Football Magazine.
