One of Juventus' biggest stars had one of his best individual performances of the season, but even that wasn't enough for the Bianconeri to get the win they needed to lock up a spot in next season's Champions League.

The streak that nobody who roots for Juventus wanted to see hit double digits moved ever so closer to becoming a half-season's worth of results on Sunday.

That meant Juventus, a team that was matching this season's Serie A champion win for win in December and January and had a chance to be atop the league table in early February now goes into the second weekend of May without a Champions League spot wrapped up.

That's because in their first official chance to clinch said UCL berth for next season, all Juventus could muster was a 1-1 draw with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The same problems we've seen for months (and even longer) were ever-present for Juventus, as was some strong play by both goalkeepers to keep the score even at 1-all in a lively second half.

In the end, though, Juve's run of struggles was extended to just 14 points in their last 14 games — something that even with a few more points here and there would have seen a UCL spot locked up weeks ago.

But, as we know, this second half of the season is nothing normal, nothing surprising at this point. A tired squad is tired — and in more ways than one.

On Episode 228 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss:

  • Takeaways from Juventus' draw against Roma — including how Federico Chiesa was the star of the show despite more points being dropped, and how Andrea Cambiaso's movement and willingness to underlap inside allowed Chiesa to have such a strong game.
  • Boy, Federico Chiesa sure was good against Roma.
  • Other thoughts on Juventus' draw with Roma.
  • One final though on Juve's draw with Roma: that refereeing was NOT GOOD.
  • Twitter questions — including the mysterious ways of corto muso and if we, as Juventus fans, have gotten used to how this season's home kit looks with all that yellow.
