Portsmouth and Derby County are both said to be showing interest in out-of-contract Oxford United winger Josh Murphy ahead of the summer window.

Portsmouth, Derby County and Oxford United are all heading up to the Championship, but a player from the latter is still drawing interest from the automatic promotion winners.

Josh Murphy sees his deal at the Kassam Stadium expire this summer and Pompey and the Rams are both rumoured to be eyeing him as a potential transfer target.

The former Norwich City man has expressed a desire to stay with the Yellows, but time will tell just how his situation pans out. Regardless, it could be wise for his admirers to keep some other options in mind.

With that said, here are three Murphy alternatives both Portsmouth and Derby County should consider…

Ruel Sotiriou – Leyton Orient

Sotiriou is a versatile forward who spent more time out on the wings than he did up top this season.

In the process, he notched 12 goals and five assists in 47 games across all competitions. The 23-year-old took the step up to League One in his stride and while it might take time to settle, a future in the Championship may await the Cyprus international.

As an out of contract player, he could be a shrewd signing for the future as a versatile, talented attacker.

Who is this?

Amario Cozier-Duberry – Arsenal

If either Portsmouth or Derby County are willing to go down a different route, emerging Arsenal starlet Amario Cozier-Duberry could be an intriguing target as his deal with the Gunners winds down.

After another impressive season at youth level in which he notched nine goals and five assists in 17 PL2 games, the 18-year-old looks ready for a step up to senior football and that may come away from North London.

He will likely have plenty of admirers, some of which may be at a higher level. However, the offer of a senior breakthrough could intrigue the youngster.

Othmane Boussaid – FC Utrecht

Last but not least, Belgian winger Boussaid is one that could be worth considering if Portsmouth or Derby County want to cast their net a bid wider in the search for a bargain.

The 24-year-old sees his deal with Eredivisie side Utrecht run out this summer and after managing four goals and three assists this season, he could be well-equipped for a shot in the Championship.

He’s comfortable on both wings and has plenty of experience at a good level, but a new challenge overseas could appeal to him.
