Bristol Rovers are among the League One clubs keen on AFC Wimbledon winger Ronan Curtis as his deal winds down, according to Bristol Live.

Bristol Rovers will spend the next few months gearing up for their first full season under Matt Taylor following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Gas finished 15th in the League One table but will be looking up after a turbulent campaign at the Memorial Stadium. While players and managerial staff take time to rest up and recover, expect transfer plans to be bubbling away in the background.

Now, as the summer window nears, a new link has emerged from Bristol Live.

They report that Bristol Rovers are among the clubs keen on AFC Wimbledon winger Ronan Curtis as his contract with the League Two side moves closer and closer to expiry.

The 28-year-old is out of contract this summer having penned a short-term deal earlier this season and while the Dons are keen to extend, interest from elsewhere could make it tough. The Gas are amongst other League One admirers, though they are the only club named at this time.

Curtis joined the club in January and has managed five goals and two assists in 17 games following a long-term knee injury at former club Portsmouth.

Who is this?

Back to his best

Curtis was a standout performer during times in his Portsmouth career and often looked a player destined to play at a higher level. Over his five years at Fratton Park following a move from Derry City, the winger notched 57 goals and 42 assists in 226 games.

He was a firm favourite among the Pompey faithful but an ACL injury meant his final season at the club was spent on the sidelines and led to his free transfer exit after a long rehabilitation.

With AFC Wimbledon though, Curtis has shown glimpses of his dangerous best once more. Operating as a winger, attacking midfielder or striker, the seven-time Republic of Ireland international has looked like a player capable of returning to his previous levels.

A League One return?

Saying that, it could be that Curtis earns a return to League One this summer.

He’d be a great asset for the Dons going into the new League Two season and he could yet opt to stay with Johnnie Jackson’s men. However, you have to think a return to the third-tier will be tempting.

Bristol Rovers are among the clubs showing an interest and it will be intriguing to see just who is joining them in pursuit of the out-of-contract winger.

Time will tell what comes of Curtis’ situation, but it would not be a surprise if he makes a step up once his AFC Wimbledon deal expires.
