Derby County are eyeing a £250,000 bid for Ebou Adams but Cardiff City want double that, according to Darren Witcoop.

Derby County recruited Adams in the January transfer window, bringing him in on loan from Championship side Cardiff City.

The Gambian midfielder had joined the Bluebirds in 2022, making a deserved jump up to the Championship following a starring stint at Forest Green Rovers. However, Adams has struggled with injuries in South Wales, leaving him out of the first-team picture.

He was in and around Erol Bulut’s side in the first half of the season but ultimately, he made the loan move to Pride Park in a bid for more regular minutes.

Adams has got just that and some. He became a vital player for Paul Warne and played a key role in Derby County sealing a return to Championship football via the automatic promotion spots.

As a result, claims have quickly emerged over a possible permanent deal. Reporter Alan Nixon stated a chase was ‘live’, while The Telegraph’s John Percy reported talks are planned.

Now though, Darren Witcoop writes on X that while the Rams are eyeing a £250,000 bid, that sum is only half of Cardiff City’s valuation.

Adams sees his deal with the Bluebirds expire in 2025, so they’re entitled to a fee for his services.

A much-wanted reunion

Derby County fans will be sad to see the back of Adams after such a strong loan stint. If the club have their way though, it won’t be long before the influential midfielder is back at Pride Park.

Over the half-season loan, the 28-year-old has become a highly popular figure amongst the Rams faithful.

His disrupted stint at Cardiff City hasn’t aided Adams but this spell in League One has reminded everyone just why he deserved that big step up in the summer of 2022. He’s shown he can be a standout in the third-tier, so he warrants regular Championship minutes next season.

It remains to be seen whether he gets that in a Derby County shirt though. The club are certainly keen to strike a deal and they have far more financial flexibility than in previous years.

However, with their prepared £250,000 bid only half of what Cardiff are demanding, it looks as though there will be work to do in their efforts to bring Adams back to Pride Park for good.
