Doncaster Rovers loan ace released by EFL side, will become free agent

Doncaster Rovers loanee Hakeeb Adelakun has been released by Lincoln City, as announced on their retained list.

Doncaster Rovers swooped to land the winger on a temporary basis in the January transfer window.

Adelakun, 27, has since been a hit with Grant McCann’s side and has helped them reach the play-offs in League Two.

The Imps have confirmed on their official club website that he will become a free agent when his contract expires next month.

The door has swung open for Doncaster Rovers to land Adelakun on a free transfer this summer.

For now though, their focus will be on gaining promotion to League One as they prepare to lock horns with Crewe Alexandra in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

Rovers have been in fine form over recent times and are in confident mood as they look to reach Wembley against either MK Dons or Crawley Town.

Adelakun has been a massive player for them since joining them this past winter and has scored nine goals in 19 games.

He was given the green light to leave Lincoln City to get some more game time under his belt and has taken his chance at the Eco-Power Stadium well.

The Londoner joined the Imps back in 2021 and has since played 57 matches for them, chipping in with seven goals. He was loaned out to Gillingham in the last campaign.

Adelakun started out at Crystal Palace and West Ham as a youngster before joining Scunthorpe United.

He then signed for Bristol City in 2018 and spent three years on the books of the Robins, some of which he spent out on loan at Rotherham United and Hull City to get some minutes, before he was snapped up by Lincoln City.

The attacker is now poised to become available for nothing and Doncaster Rovers have a decision to make.
