Fleetwood Town are in talks with Kilmarnock midfielder Liam Polworth over a potential switch to England, according to the Daily Record.

Fleetwood Town are keen to snap up the Scotsman this summer on a free transfer to bolster their options in the middle of the park. They are preparing for life in League Two following their recent relegation from League One alongside Port Vale, Cheltenham Town and Carlisle United.

Polworth, 29, sees his contract at Kilmarnock expire at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand. His current club are in talks with him over a potential extension but it remains to be seen whether he will stay put or leave.

According to the Daily Record, he is in discussions over a possible switch down the border to Highbury Stadium as former Blackpool man Charlie Adams look to bring in some new faces.

Who is this?

Fleetwood Town may have identified Polworth as someone to inject more quality into their squad.

The Inverness-born man started his career in the Highlands with local team Inverness Caledonian Thistle and rose up through their youth ranks.

He went on to play 210 games for them in all competitions and fired 18 goals, helping them win the Scottish Cup against the odds back in 2015.

Polworth then left home for the first time when Motherwell lured him to the top flight and he spent two years at Fir Park, making 62 appearances altogether.

Kilmarnock snapped him up in 2021 and he has since been a key man for them. He has played 89 matches for them to date and has found the net on three occasions.

Killie finished 4th in the table last term behind Celtic, Rangers and Hearts under the guidance of former Bristol City boss Derek McInness. However, they face a battle to keep Polworth now.

What next for Fleetwood Town target?

He turns 30 later this year meaning he faces one of his biggest decisions of his career right now. This may be his last chance to move to England.

Fleetwood Town will be aiming for promotion from the fourth tier next year and could be an exciting team to be apart of as they look to bounce back from their recent relegation.

Polworth gets regular minutes at Kilmarnock though and is a trusted member of their starting XI.
