Northampton Town defender Sam Sherring is ‘likely’ to attract interest from elsewhere this summer, as per the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

Northampton Town could face a battle to keep hold of the centre-back at the end of the season.

Sherring, 23, is out of contract in late June and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

As per the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, he may well be the subject of admiring glances from elsewhere.

Northampton Town man could attract interest

Losing Sherring for nothing in a couple of months would be a big blow for Northampton Town, especially if he went to a fellow League One side.

He has been a key player for the Cobblers since joining them in 2022 and helped them gain promotion from League Two last year along with Carlisle United, Leyton Orient and Stevenage.

The Dorchester-born man has adapted well to the step up to the third tier this term and Jon Brady’s men are currently sat in 14th place with one fixture left to play.

Sherring has become a key player for Northampton Town in the heart of their backline and has made 76 appearances in all competitions, 39 of which have come in this campaign, and he has found the net twice.

He rose up through the academy ranks at AFC Bournemouth and was a regular for the Premier League outfit at various youth levels but didn’t play for their first-team.

Instead, he was loaned out to the likes of Weymouth, Torquay United, Accrington Stanley and Cambridge United to get some experience under his belt before he cut ties with the Cherries permanently.

Northampton Town’s decision to sign him two years ago has worked out well and he has a decision regarding his future at Sixfields now.

They have lost their last two games on the spin against Fleetwood Town and Exeter City and will be eager to bounce back on the final day this weekend as they take on promotion chasing Barnsley away. The Tykes need to win to cement their place in the play-offs but have won just one in eight.
