The72’s writers offer their Bolton Wanderers vs Shrewsbury Town prediction ahead of the League One clash on Tuesday night.

Bolton Wanderers head into this midweek encounter off the back of a 1-1 draw against league leaders Portsmouth. Despite coming from behind, Ian Evatt’s side will likely feel as though it was two points dropped after a dominant display.

Abu Kamara opened the scoring for Pompey early on but Aaron Collins hit back just shy of half an hour later for Bolton to ensure things were level at the break. The result meant they remained 3rd in the table, now chasing a Derby County slip-up if they are to secure automatic promotion.

Shrewsbury Town, on the other hand, lost their last outing 2-0 on home soil against Wycombe Wanderers. They are now winless from their last four matches.

The Shrews were doing well to match Wycombe until Tom Flanagan’s sending off in the 67th minute. Luke Leahy and Richard Kone then struck late on for the visitors to condemn Paul Hurst’s men to defeat. They currently occupy 19th spot in League One, six points above the relegation zone with three games to play.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Bolton have once again upped their performance levels in recent weeks and they play Shrewsbury at the perfect time with their midweek visitors out of form.

“Evatt’s men simply have to keep winning now if they are to secure a top two finish, their result at the weekend put things back in the hands of Derby who can now seal promotion should they win their final two matches.

“The Trotters need to keep churning out results in the hopes of a slip-up from the Rams, and their frustrations from the last encounter could well be taken out on Hurst’s side.

“I am expecting a comfortable victory for the hosts on Tuesday to pile pressure on the automatic promotion spots.”

Who is this?

James Ray

“A point against the league leaders is a decent point at any time in the season. However, when you need wins like Bolton Wanderers do, it will be a bit frustrating.

“It’s out of their hands at the moment. They’ve got to keep up with Derby County and home the Rams slip up. This is their game in hand and a big chance to reduce the gap once more, and I can see them doing just that.

“Shrewsbury should be fine in the relegation fight but a defeat here won’t improve matters for them. I’ll say this ends 2-0 to the hosts.”

Bolton Wanderers vs Shrewsbury Town prediction: 2-0
