Shrewsbury Town and Dundee United are among the clubs eyeing up Boston United’s out-of-contract star Jai Rowe, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.

Shrewsbury Town are yet to secure their League One status. They’re 18th in the third-tier table with four games remaining and six points separate them and the relegation zone.

Paul Hurst and co will be hopeful of fending off relegation though and in preparation for the summer transfer window, some of those behind the scenes will already have eyes on some potential additions.

Now, rumours of interest in a possible target have emerged.

Writing on X, reporter Pete O’Rourke states that Shrewsbury Town are among the clubs interested in right-back Jai Rowe, who plays in the National League North with Boston United. His deal is up this summer, meaning he could be available for nothing.

Dundee United are the only other team named by O’Rourke, but ‘several clubs’ are interested in Rowe, it is said.

Ready for a return?

While he’s playing slightly further down the ladder with Boston United at the moment, Rowe does have Football League experience to his name. He spent over four years with Scunthorpe United and made 64 League Two appearances.

With Boston though, Rowe has become a standout performer in the sixth-tier and looks ready for a jump up the leagues. It could prove to be a really shrewd signing for Shrewsbury Town.

Interest from Dundee United and other clubs means there will likely be competition for his services. Time will tell who else enters the chase but with his deal running out, Rowe could be one of the smarter bits of business done by an EFL club in the upcoming transfer window.
