Swansea City 'unlikely' to keep 2022 signing this summer, report suggests

Swansea City are ‘unlikely’ to offer Bolton Wanderers loanee Nathanael Ogbeta a new deal this summer, as detailed in a report by WalesOnline.

Swansea City have a decision to make regarding the future of the left-back when he returns from his spell at Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters are in the play-offs and he is due to head back when their season is over as they eye promotion to the Championship.

Ogbeta, 23, was given the green light to head out the exit door on a temporary basis in the January transfer window when Ian Evatt’s side came calling to get some more game time. He has since made 16 appearances in all competitions during his time in the North West, chipping in with two goals.

In this latest update regarding his future by WalesOnline, Swansea City are not expected to hand him an extension. His current contract expires at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent.

If Swansea City don’t retain the services of Ogbeta, the door could swing open for Bolton Wanderers to snap him up on a permanent basis.

However, the Trotters’ chances of getting him may depend on what league they are in. They face Oxford United in the play-off final at Wembley next weekend after seeing off Barnsley in the semi-finals.

Ogbeta rose up through the academy ranks at Manchester City but never made a senior appearance for the current Premier League champions.

He left the Etihad Stadium permanently for a season-and-a-half at Shrewsbury Town in the third tier before Swansea City landed him. He hasn't managed to get much game time in Wales though.

The Salford-born man was loaned out to Peterborough United last term but was part of their squad beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs last year. He will be hoping for a better outcome with Bolton Wanderers this time around.

Ogbeta has recently had this to say on his future, as per a report by The Bolton News: "There hasn't been much said, to be fair, I have just been trying to concentrate on my football and my agent is usually the one who usually deals with what is going on.

"I have been focussed on what is happening here and pushing for automatic promotion. I have obviously been keeping tabs on how they have been doing, seeing the system, what has been going on but for me, I have been so happy coming here and so grateful to the gaffer for giving me the opportunity.

He added: "My contract is running up at Swansea but I am excited to see what the future holds. Just being here has been such a catalyst."

Swansea City have a significant few months ahead as Luke Williams prepares for his first full campaign at the helm.

The former Notts County boss has steadied the ship at the Swansea.com Stadium and it will be exciting to see how his team get on next term.
