Crewe Alexandra chief goes on scouting mission to Chelmsford City against Bath City

Crewe Alexandra’s head of recruitment Josh Kennard went on a scouting trip to Chelmsford City against Bath City last weekend, as detailed in a report by The Guardian.

Crewe Alexandra’s chief transfers man cast his eyes over the National League South game to take a look at potential future signings.

The Railwaymen are currently sat in 5th place in the League Two table as they eye promotion to League One.

Kennard has said, as per The Guardian: "We've got a whole database of players and they're all ranked on how urgently a scout should go and watch them. The data is essentially what took me there, for the eye test."

Crewe have always been known for utilising their academy and giving young players a chance.

However, Kennard’s trip to Chelmsford against Bath suggests they may look down the route of signing talent from non-league this summer.

The Cheshire side have been shrewd with their recruitment over recent times and have had an impressive season so far as they sit in the play-offs. They don’t have the financial power to compete with the likes of Wrexham and Stockport County but are finding other ways to identify targets.

Lee Bell’s men are three points off the automatic promotion slots and eight points inside the top seven as they look to end this campaign on a high.

They were beaten 3-1 away at MK Dons last time out and will be keen to bounce back this weekend with a positive result at home to AFC Wimbledon.

Crewe have won once in their four four outings now and take on a Dons side who are also aiming to go up this term.
