The72’s writers offer their Crewe Alexandra vs Wrexham prediction ahead of the League Two clash on Saturday afternoon.

Crewe Alexandra come into this weekend’s clash with Wrexham looking to seal their place in the play-offs.

A poor run of form ended their hopes of automatic promotion and the Railwaymen are now five points ahead of the chasing pack. They sit 5th in the League Two table, with Walsall and a resurgent Doncaster Rovers both table to catch them.

The Alex have won one of their last seven games and were beaten 3-0 by Grimsby Town last time out.

Wrexham meanwhile will be rising to League One this season after sealing back-to-back promotions last weekend.

They can not catch leaders Stockport County over the final two games but can still battle it out with an also promoted Mansfield Town for 2nd place.

Phil Parkinson’s side are 3rd as it stands, tied on points with the Stags.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“We’ve seen how promoted teams can be prone to taking their foot off the gas once they’ve sealed their fate, but Wrexham will be hoping to avoid that as they look to beat Mansfield to 2nd.

“Parkinson and co are in fine form and against a Crewe Alexandra side struggling for wins, I feel the visitors should be able to claim all three points.

“Crewe need to be wary of the chasing pack closing them in and I don’t the result here will help any nerves heading into the final day. I’ll say Wrexham win this 2-1 as their continue their promotion celebrations.”

Crewe Alexandra need a win to secure their place in the play-offs and this would be a great opponent to do it against.

“The Railwaymen have had a decent season under Lee Bell but have seen their results dry up a bit recently. They lost 3-0 at home to Grimsby Town last time out.

Wrexham have got their job done and can look forward to playing in League One next term. Phil Parkinson’s side can’t win the title now though so don’t really have anything to play for now. For that reason, I fancy the hosts to sneak a win in front of their own fans here.”

Crewe Alexandra vs Wrexham prediction: 2-1
