Notts County need to tighten up their defence this summer as they prepare for another year in League Two.

Notts County were promoted from the National League last year alongside Wrexham and are sat in 14th place in the table with one game left to play.

The Magpies have the worst defensive record in the division having let in 85 goals in 45 games.

They need to boost their backline in the upcoming window and should sign Farrend Rawson from Morecambe.

Who is this?

Notts County should sign defender

Rawson, who is from Nottingham, is out of contract at the end of June and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

He would bolster Notts County’s defensive department and would inject some experience into their ranks.

The League Two Community Player of the Year has been ever-present for Morecambe over the past few years and possesses the know-how and streetwise attributes that the Magpies have lacked this term.

Rawson rose up through the academy ranks of Derby County but didn’t make a senior appearance for the Rams. Instead, he got game time as a youngster out on loan at Rotherham United, Coventry City and Accrington Stanley.

Forest Green Rovers then snapped him up on a permanent basis in 2017 and he spent three years with the Gloucestershire club, scoring four goals in 97 matches.

He then had two campaigns at Mansfield Town before switching to Morecambe.

Rawson is a robust player who would be a steady pair of hands for Notts County if they were to try and lure him to Meadow Lane.

Stuart Maynard needs to get his recruitment spot on and landing someone of his calibre would be a shrewd bit of business.

The Magpies have been naive defensively over recent times and although they don’t have any problems at the other end of the pitch, they need to sort things out at the back and Rawson would be a sensible acquisition.
