'Renewed confidence' – Notts County vs Salford City prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Notts County vs Salford City prediction ahead of their League Two clash on Saturday afternoon.

Notts County head into this weekend's clash with Salford City following a triumphant 3-0 victory away from home over Bradford City on Tuesday evening.

Macaulay Langstaff had the Magpies ahead after 12 minutes, before winter addition Alassana Jatta struck twice in the second half to wrap up the scoring. The result meant that the Magpies moved up to 13th in the table, six points off the play-off spots with a game in hand over 7th place AFC Wimbledon.

Salford City also tasted success in their last outing having beat Morecambe 3-1 on home soil at the Peninsula Stadium.

Connor McLennan struck first for the Ammies before Callum Hendry doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. A Theo Vassell own goal then halved the deficit just after the hour mark, but Curtis Tilt restored Salford's two-goal advantage in the 79th minute to make sure of three points. They remain 20th in League Two as a result, now 11 points above the drop zone.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

"Both Notts County and Salford managed to put awful runs of form to bed in their last outings, so this encounter is bound to be an intriguing one between two sides who should both have renewed confidence.

"The Magpies have dropped down the table an awful way from where their start of the season expectations would have laid, but there is still an outside chance that they could reach the top seven.

"The visitors, on the other hand, look as though they have done enough to avoid the drop, although the season will have been disappointing for them overall.

"Back at Meadow Lane, and with the possibility of achieving a play-off spot not yet out of reach, I am backing Notts to take the spoils in this one."

James Ray

“This is a tricky one to call. Both picked up valuable wins last night out but there’s no hiding that they’ve been in bad form of late.

“Both will be determined to kick on and end the season on a high, so a win here could be crucial to building some momentum. I do see the home advantage playing into the favour of Notts County though.

“Form at Meadow Lane has not been there of late but the spirits should have been lifted by that midweek performance. Hopefully that can buoy on the players, as they can still finish in a good position this season.

“Either side could win this but I’m leaning towards a home victory.”
