According to L'Équipe, the UEFA executive committee has decided today to expand squad lists from 23 players to 26 ahead of this summer's Euro.

It is a decision that puts UEFA in line with the recommendations suggested by the National Team Competitions Committee which voted for this solution by a slim majority on the 22nd of April. The expansion to 26-player squads will also see every player in the team now featured on the matchday team sheet.

Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation, the president of the NTCC and a member of the UEFA executive committee had been publicly against the expansion. As was Didier Deschamps, the manager of the French national team.

However, Deschamps had suggested that if there was to be an expanded squad size then each player should be selectable in each match, rather than the previous system when some players would be unable to feature in a more limited matchday squad.
