Liverpool’s dealings with the Saudi Pro League have so far been largely beneficial to the Reds.

Having sold two players to teams from the division last summer, Liverpool banked themselves an unexpected windfall.

But although the sales of Fabinho and even Jordan Henderson were timely, the same could not be said of a potential exit for Alisson Becker.

Despite a frustrating injury, Alisson was still one of Jurgen Klopp’s best players this season. The goalkeeper remains an incredibly important member of the Liverpool squad. They can’t afford to lose him.

Nevertheless, according to the rumour mill, they might. There have been claims that Alisson is a big target for more than one Saudi club this summer Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has shared whether one of those suitors could be Steven Gerrard led Al Ettifaq.

Is Alisson Becker a target for Steven Gerrard?

It’s now known that John Achterberg will give up his place on the Liverpool coaching staff to join Gerrard at Al Ettifaq this summer.

Having been at Anfield for 15 years, Achterberg is credited as the man who first urged Liverpool to target Alisson.

As a result, you could understand some nerves from Reds fans that their former goalkeeping coach may be trying to coax Alisson out with him.

Taking to X though, Jacobs has reported that although they need a new goalie, Al Ettifaq cannot afford to be in for Liverpool’s No.1.

“Although true Alisson Becker is of interest to Saudi dealmakers, LFC view him as crucial,” says the reporter.

“John Achterberg’s move to Al-Ettifaq coincides with Steven Gerrard’s side searching for a goalkeeper. But Ettifaq don’t have the budget to move for Allison and are looking elsewhere.”

Alisson confirms Claudio Taffarel stay

With Achterberg’s assistant Jack Robinson also leaving the club this summer, Liverpool’s goalkeeping department is being decimated.

As a result, it was good to hear on Tuesday that another coach – Claudio Taffarel – is set to stay.

Alisson confirmed as much after Sunday’s game, claiming that it ‘looks like’ his countryman will remain on the staff under Arne Slot.

More than Achterberg leaving, this surely represents a good sign that Alisson will stay, too. He and Taffarel are close, after all.

With Adrian also looking like he could now extend his career at Liverpool as well, there should at least be a little continuity. Hands off, Stevie!
