"Hasn't proved anything": Former United striker pours scorn on Sancho's Bundesliga return

Manchester United have suffered one of their most tumultuous seasons on and off the pitch in a very long time.

The case of Jadon Sancho is just a snippet of the controversy the club has faced this season.

Sancho was exiled from the playing squad in September after a falling out with Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman called out the player’s efforts in training and resultingly left the Englishman out of the squad until he apologised.

No apology ever came, so the winger was sent out on loan to former side Borussia Dortmund in the winter market.

Sancho has been played quite well since his return to Germany and has played a major role on the Bundesliga side somewhat surprisingly qualifying for the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they will take on PSG for a place in the grand final.

He has been a regular in the Dortmund side, playing 15 games and providing 2 goals and 2 assists, including a strike in the Champions League versus PSV Eindhoven.

The conventional wisdom is that whilst not setting the world on fire, he has shown his worth in Germany and with the insipid wing play of the likes of Rashford and Antony, many fans have pondered if Sancho would have contributed more to this campaign.

However, one man who disagrees with his opinion is former United striker, Louis Saha.

Speaking to BetFred via DAZN , Saha commented, “I don’t believe he’s proving any point”.

“The only point he’s proving is that he’s a talented player and if he wasn’t stubborn, he could have been doing what he’s doing for Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United now. He hasn’t proven anything”.

“There’s no doubt about his talent, but his attitude has been challenged during his time with Manchester United and the way he’s dealt with it has been to the risk of his own career”.

“Erik ten Hag knew he was missing the opportunity to play a good player and that’s it.

“It was a situation where the player, manager and club were all losing simultaneously. It’s all about ego and the club has to stop allowing those things to happen because it’s just not right. All that’s been proven is that things like this shouldn’t be happening at such a big club”.

The future of Sancho is another example of a United player that is up in the air. Logically, it would seem he has kicked his last ball for the Old Trafford side as the club are said to be willing to sanction another loan deal next year to create the conditions for a permanent sale further down the line.

Nonetheless, it has also been said that the appointment of new technical director, Jason Wilcox could reanimate Sancho’s future at the club owing to their previous relationship at Manchester City.
