Fabio Silva might not have won over many Rangers fans v Kilmarnock but Chris Sutton has had a different take.

The Portuguese forward, 21, has not exactly had it easy at Rangers since a January loan switch from Wolves but netted a crucial goal in the eventual 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock.

Finding space at the back post to cooly slot slot home an equaliser from John Lundstram's cross in first-half stoppage time, it is a moment which held off the inevitable boos of a frustrated Ibrox support.

But whilst Rangers fans were impressed with the Fabio Silva finish, the forward's celebration has left a lot to be desired.

Gesturing to the the Rangers supporters a-la Josh Windass, it's a moment which has saw the striker's already limited favour shrink with Ibrox fans who are never ones to entertain such theatrics.

Silva celebrations riles Rangers fans

Taking to social media platform X in the aftermath of the win over Kilmarnock, Rangers fans weren't exactly pleased by Fabio Silva's celebration.

The equaliser against Kilmarnock was only Silva's third Scottish Premiership strike and there's a sentiment the one-time £35m forward should've delivered more in Glasgow.

That celebration has angered a few supporters who've been expressing their frustration at the forward online in the aftermath of this crucial victory.

Here's a selection of reactions from social media platform X:

Chris Sutton defends Rangers striker

Whilst we understand some of the frustrations of Rangers fans, something tells us Fabio Silva was just making a statement about the general criticism of his performances.

The forward – quite simply – has not produced enough since joining Rangers in January.

But there are still some big games to come and some potentially big moments for the forward in a blue jersey.

Given injuries to the likes of Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo, God knows we're going to need him.

From our point of view the goal is a very welcome one and if Fabio Silva can go on a run from here he can quite honestly celebrate however he likes.

It's now about building on it.

One surprise supporter of the striker's contribution against Kilmarnock is ex-Celtic forward Chris Sutton, who leapt to the defence of Fabio Silva on Sky Sports' live coverage (3:17pm 05/05/24) of the game.

"You have to be a tad more positive about him," Sutton told Kris Boyd. "Today his movement created the opportunity, the sending-off and the penalty, the timing of his runs was excellent.

"I think we all think the same thing. He is just not brave enough at times, but today maybe that will do him a bit of good for his confidence."

Fabio Silva has made 21 appearances for Rangers this season, with the strike against Kilmarnock his 3rd on league duties and 4th in all competitions.
