Rangers players might occasionally provide the odd dip in standards, but it is an accusation that can never be thrown at the fans.

Against St Mirren, the travelling support was in fine voice once again as the attempted to drag the whole Light Blues squad over the line.

Rangers return to Ibrox this week for the first time in what feels like an age and they will do so, led by the Union Bears, with a new twist on an old classic.

Rangers fans rewrite a classic in new addition to songbook

The fans group are set to be moved to the Copland Road stand where they will be situated behind the goals after several test games were carried out and considered to have had a positive effect on the atmosphere.

Even during the worst of performances, they can be heard up until ‘God Save the King’ as the final seconds tick down.

In recent years, Berlinda Carlisle, ABBA, Culture Club and the Cockerel Chorus have all provided the inspiration for songs from the fans group with the latest release drawing inspiration from an artist closer to home.

It's not a song that you would associate with 50,000 raucous fans, however, folk singer Dougie McLean's 'Caledonia' has had a remix for 2024.

Titled 'Glasgow Rangers is everything I've ever had', the Union Bears have put new words to a song that has long been covered in the Scottish traditional music scene.

Posting on X, the Union Bears have been kind enough to provide the lyrics for a song that could prove to be popular among the older generation of Rangers fans.

Chorus

“So let me tell you that I love you, and I think about you all the time.

“Ibrox Stadium is calling me and now I’m going home.

“To think of life without the Rangers, you know that it would make me more than sad.

“Glasgow Rangers is everything I’ve ever had.

Verse

“We won 9-in-a-row and I’m still dreaming, of Brian Laudrup and Trevor Steven.

“Marvin Andrews said ‘Keep believing’, Davie Cooper’s on the wing.

“We remember Gazza with great affection, the day the helicopter changed direction.

“Jimmy Baxter, he was pure perfection, Super Ally scores again.”

It's a bit harder to remember than the songs of Filip Helander, Cyriel Dessers or Todd Cantwell, so it will be interesting to see if this one catches on.
