Blackpool Fans Verdict: Reading End On A High
29/04/2024 09:34
For the final time this season, Harry rounds up the reaction of the Loyal Royals.
So that's that then. What a way to end a season so full of turbulence, insanity and ridiculousness.
Donning a very fresh-looking new home kit, the Royals managed to put three really good goals past a Blackpool team who were still within a chance of getting into the top six at the start of play.
In the end we were deserved winners. The game, combined with the post-match scenes, the scenes in Purple Turtle later on Saturday night, and the whole occasion of the day made me so proud to be a Reading fan.
Here's how the fans reacted to the game...
A new kit!
One thing I don't think anybody was expecting was to see Reading walk out in a brand-new home kit, taking everybody by surprise.
Some people are really into kits, some not so much, but the fact the players walked out in it unannounced meant it was always likely to be a talking point.
For what's it worth I think it's really smart, and it'll be good to see Yids lift the League One trophy in it next year. Here's what the fans thought...
If ever you needed a sign of new owners incoming, announcing the new kit before every other club when we're normally the last to do so is the way forward #readingfchttps://t.co/XAFBZ288Wi

Ending with a win
If any group of supporters deserve to end the season with a win and a bit of optimism, it's us lot. We've been put through the wringer this season, through horrible on-the-pitch performances and insanity off it.
And it was a really good win, the atmosphere was great, and the players put in a really good performance - and the fans were delighted...
Nice to end the season with a win, a really good 2nd half performance. Very proud of what that season turned into, which was everybody coming together on & off the pitch to fight to keep this great football club alive. Let the takeover & rebuild begin, up the Ding! #readingfc

Yes. Lovely way to end a long season, that. Bring on next year; new owners, some new faces and a fresh new start. I love this club. #readingfc

If you'd told me in November that we would finish in 17th, nine points clear of the drop, whilst having more points deducted in that time, I would not have believed you.

Great way to end what has been a tough year. Great positive vibe at the club atm, bring on 24/25!#readingfc
Great to finish the season with a win and to finish comfortably above the relegation zone. Hopefully a positive summer on and off the pitch will give us a good base to attack League one next season. #readingfc

Feel-good feeling
There hasn't been a feel-good feeling like this around the club for a very, very long time. And Saturday summed that up perfectly.
Firstly, an amazing win and performance to end the season. And then the post-match lap of honour, and players and fans sharing a few drinks in Purple Turtle in the evening - it's a sign of the club on the up. All we need now is the ownership to be sorted pronto.
If we can keep this core group of players and staff together, and sort things out upstairs, we could have a really good season next year...
i'm sorry but surely them players go out there with a desire to win when we have such a connection with the players. #readingfcpic.twitter.com/I7fXAGWlZi

From kick off to Turtle, yesterday was top dollar. We're getting our club back #readingfc

Great result yesterday, this season could've ended a hell of a lot worse, but the togetherness that's been shown over the last couple of months has been amazing, gutted I missed the purple turtle party........I will be there May 2025 #readingfc#upthedinghttps://t.co/VaTOtgGEjo

Probably our best home performance of the season, as good a final day as I can remember. Selles deserves a statue for the way he's got this team playing with everything going on off the field. Fingers crossed we have over 18k back here in August under new owners #UTFD#readingfcpic.twitter.com/RyksLvxAF3

It wasn't long ago I nearly stopped going. I hated the sight of the club and the players. Fraudsters. Now I'm celebrating as if they've won the league. So proud and a massive connection. Can't wait till next season. #readingfc

What a day yesterday was. Great atmosphere with the result to match it. It's been some season. #readingfcpic.twitter.com/sfkRdSlUsc

Just need this takeover sorted now. On the football pitch we have some nice solid foundations in place now. No need for new manager, new tactics & squad overhauls. Just need to add the group. #readingfc

Some night last night. It's amazing what can happen when the whole club and fans come together.

Conclusion
Another season done and dusted. Through doing these pieces I've been able to see firsthand the fans react to the lowest lows, of which there were many, all the way up to now, when optimism among the supporters is the highest I can remember for a long time.
It's been a hell of a season, figuratively and literally, but we got to the other side. And that is no mean feat when you consider what we've had to go through. Hopefully this is the start of something new and better. But time will tell.
Enjoy your break, and see you next season. URZ.
