Shite. Here's how Andy rated the Lads.

Nathan Bishop: 4/10

Beaten far too easily for the first goal, no chance with the second and don't think he made a single save in the game.

Trai Hume: 5/10

Solid at right back but nowhere near his best, don't think we saw a single one of his crunching tackles. Had a half chance in the opposition box but his shot was blocked.

Luke O'Nien (C): 5/10

Maybe got done by a runner for the first goal but space was made by other players being out of position and not tracking. Solid enough otherwise.

Dan Ballard: 5/10

Not at his commanding best but didn't do much wrong.

Aji Alese: 4/10

Got skinned a few times on the left-hand side and had to resort to pulling the winger back by his arm, which he got booked for. Never gave up at least and kept trying to provide support going forward.

Callum Styles: 3/10

Had half a chance that he skewed wide, took one corner that went out of play immediately before landing in the goalkeepers hands and lost his runner for the second goal.

Jobe Bellingham: 4/10

Completely unsuited to playing a creative roll, had a few chances to get a shot off but is not quick enough and had to snatch at shots as a result.

Pierre Ekwah: 3/10

Pretty anonymous for most of his time on the pitch, nothing from him going forward and neat and tidy, at best, on the ball. Not great defensively either, with Bannan given all the time in the world in the middle of the pitch in the first half.

Patrick Roberts: 3/10

Very little drive from him again, looks devoid of confidence on the ball and had one really good chance that he skied miles over when well placed.

Jack Clarke: 6/10

Again, dangerous when he got the ball but that was nowhere near enough. Despite that he still hit the post with a curling effort, tested the goalkeeper after dribbling inside, combined well with Alese to create a chance for Roberts and also picked out Jobe who fired so wide that he hit a team-mate.

Adil Aouchiche: 6/10

He actually played quite well, buzzed around, linking up play and putting in a number of good crosses that no-one attacked. Had a couple of shots too, one with a header that he should have done better with and a first time shot from a long ball from Evans that made the goalkeeper work. He did that while being the player furthest forward though, which meant there was never anyone in the middle with Jobe usually too deep.

Substitutes

Chris Rigg: 6/10

Showed some endeavour after coming on and some good footwork.

Corry Evans: 6/10

Thought he looked a little sluggish but mostly kept things simple other than a great ball over the top for Aouchiche to run onto.

Abdoullah Ba: 5/10

Was really lively after coming on, using his pace and trickery well but his end product was woeful.

Tommy Watson: N/A

A very brief cameo but at least managed to get down the line and put a cross in.

Man of the Match: Jack Clarke

In what might be his last Sunderland appearance he gets my man of the match, not that he was his outstanding best but he was at least better than his lacklustre team-mates. Created some chances that were spurned and made a couple for himself, hitting the post with one effort and forcing the goalkeeper into a good save after dribbling into the box from out wide.
