How do you think we will do back at the SOL this afternoon against Millwall?

Malc Dugdale predicts...

Score prediction: Sunderland 1 Millwall 0

Sunderland's first goalscorer: Clarke

The past few games have reinstated solidity at the back, but we are still only converting a small portion of what we create. The set piece goal by Ekwah at WBA was nice to see though.

I see this being tight, but that we will deserve a close win. If the attackers prove me wrong and we bang in 4 then all good, but Millwall have shown they can turn over decent sides of late.

Let's get the job done, hopefully give minutes to some of the lads we want to see more of, and build as good a points and league position as we can as a platform for 2024-25

Matty Foster predicts...

Score prediction: Sunderland 2 Millwall 1

Sunderland's first goalscorer: Jobe

Since returning to the Den, Neil Harris has put to bed any relegation worries Millwall may have had.

He's won five of his ten games, with some pretty impressive victories along the way.

With both clubs having only pride to play for, this screams to me of a fairly dull affair.

We've managed three clean sheets on the bounce, which, after the collapse against Blackburn, is very pleasing.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised both sides cancel each other out.

But I'm throwing a bit of optimism on to this prediction, so 2-1!

Bomber Davies predicts...

Score prediction: Sunderland 2 Millwall 1

Sunderland's first goalscorer: Clarke

I'm in Rome on holiday but had a word with the Pope and he reckons we will flip to a back 4, and the chances we have failed to convert up front of late will be aided by his holy influence this weekend. Who could argue with the Pontiff?

I am hoping for a narrow win thanks to the man upstairs and another goal for Clarke, to get him firing and confident again as we head to the end of the season.

Before I leave I will ask His Holiness to do all he can to either get us £30m plus for Jack, or to keep him in red and white.

I'll let you know how that goes, I'm seeing him for a pint before I head to the airport, cos my Mrs wants her sunflower back.

Martin Wanless predicts...

Score prediction: Sunderland 2 Millwall 0

Sunderland's first goalscorer: Jobe

Apart from the one obvious exception our defence has been solid over recent weeks and we just need to get firing at the other end of the field.

I wouldn't be surprised if we stuck with the three at the back formation today and hopefully we can get a win in the season's penultimate home fixture.

I'm going for a 2-0 win with Jobe - inspired by his big brother's achievements this week - to get the first goal.

Will Jones predicts...

Score prediction: Sunderland 3 Millwall 1

Sunderland's first goalscorer: Clarke

Both teams have nothing to play for, and yet Millwall can still beat Leicester and put in some solid performances as of late.

We seem to be picking up, having kept 5 clean sheets in the last 6, I feel we will be extremely solid this weekend, but we are prone to a few hiccups.

Not long to go till the season is out and we can all focus on the big things that lie ahead for this squad.

Jack Howe-Gingell predicts...

Score prediction: Sunderland 2 Millwall 0

Sunderland's first goalscorer: Clarke

After two good results, we need to follow up at home with a result to cheer up the supporters. It's been a tough watch in the second half of the season, so it'd be nice to play well and score a couple of goals.

I wonder if we will continue to employ the less exciting but more solid formation that we have of late, or will try to be more attacking. Rumours of an injury to Dan Neil may provoke a change anyhow, and may give Chris Rigg a proper go in his favoured position.

I hope we can continue to finish strongly, giving us the best opportunity to look an attractive proposition in the summer.

Predictions League - latest results

The RR lads had mixed feelings about the trip to play the Baggies, with three forecasting an away win, one a home win and two a draw.

Malc did the best with his correct call of a 1-0 win to us, but Jack and Will also get a point for backing the lads to get all three.

Nothing for Matty, Martin or Bomber, with potential first scorer points being dashed by Ekwah's sweet half volley from a corner.

This afternoon will be another tough challenge, but it would be really nice for the fans if we can play solid but expansive football at home, and start to head back in the direction we have seen in the past. Neither side have much to play for but hopefully that still means we get a decent bit of footy.

With players slowly starting to come back from injury and others in the age groups banging on the door, who knows what is to come today, and later once Dodds moves on.

League Table

Predictions positions remain unchanged but Martin's lead is closed up a little due to his late submission points deduction, and a 3 point boost for Malc which lifts him into second.

Still a big ask for anyone to catch our Aussie ex pat, but just like the league, 2nd to 6th are all still to play for.

How the points are awarded

Just a quick reminder of how we allocate points to our match-by-match predictions:

  • Correct score = Three points
  • Correct outcome (but not correct score) = One point
  • Correct first Sunderland goalscorer = One point (no goal scorer is a valid call)
  • Possible deductions for being lazy and not submitting on time = Two point deduction
