Poor Reggie.

Sergio Reguilon has had a bit of a better time on loan at Brentford this spring, but while he seems to like the club and the club seems to like him, they aren't going to consummate their mutual attraction.

Reguilon was signed for Brentford on loan as cover for the injured Rico Henry in January. The move was a "dry" loan, meaning there was no purchase option or obligation baked into the deal, and according to The Athletic, Brentford now look "unlikely" to make a permanent move for Reggie after he returns to Spurs in June.

My guess is that Brentford, Tottenham, and Reggie have all know about this for some time now so it won't be a surprise to anyone except fans who are just now hearing the news. The Athletic's report states that Reggie's wages, which are at £100k/wk, are one big reason why the club isn't really considering a bid, as is the fact that they really no longer need the cover at Reggie's position.

There are also suggestions that Reguilon can turn surly when he doesn't feel appreciated.

But there has been a perception internally that when things are going less well and/or he's no longer being picked, Reguilon isn't the easiest of characters. The general view is that he needs to feel loved to really thrive, and the reality is that at Spurs he won't get the game time for that to happen.

It means another summer in the wilderness for Reggie, who clearly doesn't fit into Ange Postecoglou's plans. His contract expires in June in 2025, so Spurs are likely pretty motivated to get whatever they can for him for whomever wants him. He's not a bad player by any means, so hopefully there's someout there ready for a reclamation project available for a sale price.
