Opinion: Tottenham should make January bid for underrated WC hero, hailed by Spurs star recently

Tottenham Hotspur should try to unsettle Antonee Robinson by trying to prise him away from Fulham in January.

Spurs should try to seal Robinson deal in January

It’s clear to see that Antonio Conte has a crisis on his hands at full-back this season, on both flanks.

With Ivan Perisic being a mixed bag so far and Ryan Sessegnon being far from his best at left wing-back, reinforcements are needed in the position. And badly.

Enter Antonee Robinson.

Since joining Fulham for £2 million in 2020, the 25-year-old has been a bargain of an addition.

With Conte’s system begging for a marauding left wing-back in particular, Robinson would perhaps be the perfect fit.

The Milton Keynes-born defender’s ability to bomb up and down the pitch, inch-perfect final ball and supreme athleticism are traits not a single Spurs player possesses in said position.

While there are question marks over the former Wigan left-back’s defensive abilities, he would be provided adequate cover in the Lilywhites’ 3-man defence.

Aside from this, Tottenham would seemingly not have to pay an arm and a leg to sign Antonee Robinson.

After all, the USMNT defender was perhaps one of his nation’s most underrated performers at the World Cup.

While names such as Tyler Adams and Yunus Musah in particular were constantly lauded, the ex-Everton man’s exploits went under-the-radar.

Keeping that in mind, Spurs would not be forced to pay a premium price to sign him, unlike most players who thrive at the World Cup.

With Manchester United looking the part under Erik ten Hag, Liverpool on the rise again and Chelsea expected to improve in the second half of the season, the race for top four will be heated to say the least.

Considering the North Londoners are yet to convince this season, reinforcements are imperative.

Keeping that in mind, Tottenham should try to lure Antonee Robinson to sign for them in January to bolster their chances of Champions League qualification.

With Spurs’ Matt Doherty already raving about him in his World Cup diary on the club website, the transfer may well be a match made in heaven.
