Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The Denmark international has struggled for regular game time at the North London club and he needs to move on in order to play regularly.

According to a report from the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid were keen on signing him during the January transfer window and the player waited for them to secure an agreement with Tottenham. However, the Spanish club could not agree on a reasonable deal with the London club.

It appears that Spurs are prepared to sell the midfielder for a fee of around £13 million this summer and Atletico Madrid would be willing to pay that kind of money for the player. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can thrash out an agreement in the coming weeks.

Hojbjerg has made 36 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham this season, but most of them have come as a substitute. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career and a fresh start would be ideal. Atletico Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in Spain and the opportunity to play for them would be an exciting option. Hojbjerg would get to work with a world-class manager like Diego Simeone as well.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will be hoping to recoup some money for the fringe player and invest the proceeds from his departure on a younger alternative. They need to sign a central midfielder during the summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen who they end up signing.

The 28-year-old Denmark international has proven himself in the Premier League over the years, and he has the physical and technical attributes to do well in Spanish football as well. He could establish himself as an important first team player for Simeone and Atletico Madrid.
