Newcastle agree Anthony Gordon transfer from Everton for £45million fee

Newcastle have agreed to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton this January transfer window. The Magpies have hit upon a £40m fee with The Toffees for the winger, plus £5m in add-ons after the player made it clear he wanted to move. Gordon looks set to move to NewcastleGetty Having haggled over a £5m payment in the earlier stages of the negotiations, all parties have now come to an agreement. It was further reported that a deal could be officially announced over the weekend, giving Newcastle enough time to potentially have Gordon ready to be part of the squad to face Southampton in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. The England Under-21 international had been desperate to move to Newcastle, missing training several times this week. Gordon had been given approved leave on Monday but then failed to return on Tuesday and Wednesday as he looked to force a move through after reports emerged that Everton were looking for £60m, which was ridiculed by Simon Jordan. Instead, the Merseyside club will receive £45m in a structured deal as Eddie Howe gets his man. It is a deal that has suddenly picked up pace after slow negotiations throughout the week and it was only earlier on Friday that both Everton and Newcastle were haggling over £5m. Football correspondent Alex Crook told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show: “I’ve just had a message that, at the moment, the two clubs Newcastle and Everton are £5m apart in terms of fee. “So that doesn’t seem insurmountable, although the message does go on to say that neither party is budging at this stage. “So, there you go, hot off the press. Everton and Newcastle are £5m apart in terms of their valuation of Anthony Gordon, who really wants that move to St. James’ Park.” Howe has been keen to sign Gordon this windowGetty Recently sacked manager Frank Lampard did his best to keep hold of Gordon last summer when Chelsea tried to sign him and there were reports of a £60m bid being readied. However, a transfer did not go through and Everton were desperate for the youngster to sign a new contract to ward off interest but the attention of Newcastle swayed his head. Gordon has made 18 appearances this season, scoring three goals and will add to Howe’s firepower up front along with the likes of Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron. Newcastle are vying for Champions League football this season and sit third in the table while Everton are struggling to stay in the Premier League, languishing in 19th.
