Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has been signed up as an ambassador for West Herts Hospitals Charity - the official charity for West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Austrian shot stopper will help play a key role in supporting the charity, which raises funds to improve patient care and staff wellbeing over and above what the NHS can afford.

The charity funds initiatives to improve the patient experience, treatment and facilities at West Herts Hospitals; recent examples include a state of the art interventional radiology (IR) scanner purchased by the charity for the new IR suite opening at Watford General this year.

On his new position, Bachmann said: "I'm so thankful for the support I have received from Watford fans and local community since I joined the club – which is why I jumped at the chance to play a role in helping our friends at West Herts Hospital Charity.

"As an ambassador, I will help raise awareness of what the charity does and the wonderful difference it makes to thousands of local people, as well as support its fundraising efforts."

Alison Rosen, CEO at West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: "We are hugely grateful to Daniel for becoming our first ambassador and for his support for West Herts Hospitals.

"We know Daniel is a very popular player and he will no doubt help rally fans and the wider community to raise more funds, to help more people, in more ways in the future.

"And to get him on a free signing is even better!"

The club captain's first engagement as ambassador will be at the Step Up for Health event at Vicarage Road Stadium on Saturday June 1.

Participants are invited to run, walk, or climb their way up and down the stands of the 20,000-plus seater stadium. With chipped timing available, participants can set personal targets, compete with friends, or simply aim to complete the challenge while raising funds for West Herts Hospitals Charity and the Watford FC Community Trust.
