Watford FC Women midfielder Alli Palisch has announced her retirement from football after a fantastic career spanning five countries.

The 29-year-old was born in Texas but became a full international for the Republic of Ireland who she qualifies for through her grandparents.

She joined Watford in August 2022 after a spell with London City Lionesses and made 31 appearances for the Golden Girls last season as they earned promotion to the Barclays Women's Championship.

Palisch, a versatile player in the middle of the park who can also help out at the back, signed a new 12-month contract in July.

The 2023/24 season saw her make 12 appearances and she ends her Watford career after featuring 43 times in all, scoring once against Crawley Wasps in October 2022.

Before coming to England, Palisch had played in the United States, Sweden, the Netherlands and Iceland.

"Before I leave, all I want to say is thank you to the fans, you guys have been amazing," she said.

"What a ride it's been from last year to this year, through the good times and the bad times I think you guys have always been there for us, and it's meant so much to us.

"After wins and great highs you were there, but even after some losses that were disappointing I would just go over to the fans and you guys make it all better. I just want to say I appreciate that.

"I've achieved the dream that I had as a little girl, I couldn't think of anything other than being a professional when I was a little kid, it's really been a dream come true.

"To my team-mates, it's been a joy to be here every day with you guys, you've kept me going through some hard times and I hope that when I leave, you remember me for my smile, my personality and all good things because that's all I ever wanted to do, be the best team player and professional."

Thank you for everything and good luck, Alli!
