Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Torino's Alessandro Buongiorno in the summer window, according to Calciomercato.

The Serie A side settled for a goalless draw against Bologna on Friday and the centre-back's latest display has convinced Napoli to launch an assault for him.

It won't be easy for the Naples club as they will face 'challenge' from AC Milan and clubs from abroad, which includes Bayern Munich and 'above all Tottenham'.

The 24-year-old was subjected to interest in the winter market, but the Turin club were able to hold on to him. The situation would be different during the next window and there's likely to be an auction for him.

It's claimed Torino value the defender at €40m and aren't willing to offer discounts. This could be within Tottenham's reach and with them leading the list of suitors from abroad, they and other interested parties have to 'beware of' Napoli.

Calciomercato explain Napoli seem 'increasingly intent' on getting closer towards Torino's €40m demand by including performance related bonuses.

Buongiorno would be open to leaving Torino and this is set to 'trigger an auction'. The report states his priority is to join a team that can offer him Champions League football next season.

Both Napoli and Tottenham face an uphill task to qualify for the Champions League, and therefore, have to find a way to convince the player, if they want to secure Buongiorno's services.
