West Ham United are currently at a crossroads in terms of who is set to be their manager next season.

Hammers boss David Moyes is out of contract in summer and there hasn't been any serious indication that he'll remain at the club after the end of the season.

Back in February, Moyes revealed that West Ham have offered him a new deal, but he's waiting until the end of the season before making a decision.

As per football.london, Moyes is expected to hold conversations with West Ham owner David Sullivan, but it’s widely anticipated that the club will seek a new direction.

Reports have begun doing the rounds claiming the Hammers have begun looking around for a new head coach to take the reins.

Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has now provided an update on X regarding who West Ham have on their radar.

Ruben Amorim is said to be top of their list, while Julen Lopetegui is also in the running, wrote Plettenberg.

Meanwhile, Lille’s Paulo Fonseca is on the list due to his style of play, while Tim Steidten holds Thomas Tuchel in very high regard.

Who is West Ham manager target Paulo Fonseca?

Fonseca retired in June 2005 at the age of 32 and started coaching after retiring, remaining two years at the helm of Estrela Amadora's youth team.

From 2007 to 2011, he was in charge of several modest teams in Portugal, before taking the reins at second-division Aves.

Between 2012 and 2015, Fonseca had two spells at Pacos de Ferreira either side of a stint at Porto, where he won the Portuguese Super Cup.

In 2016, Fonseca took his first job outside Portugal, joining Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.

It was here that Fonseca made a real name for himself, winning the Ukrainian league and cup double in his three seasons, plus a Ukrainian Super Cup.

After his stint at Shakhtar, Fonseca managed Serie A outfit Roma, leaving at the end of the 2020-21 season, and joined Lille in 2022, where he still plies his trade.

What has Pep Guardiola said about West Ham manager target Paulo Fonseca?

In December 2017, Shakhtar beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Champions League, handing Pep Guardiola's side their first defeat in 227 days.

The City boss had praised Fonseca's team three months earlier in the reverse fixture at the Etihad, despite beating them 2-0.

"Tonight, we beat an amazing team," he told the City website. "It was an extraordinary performance.

"We could not allow them to dictate because Fred and Stepanenko were amazing.

"They have fantastic players, are well organised and defended really well.

"A lot of credit to my players because we had to work hard to beat them. It was big result for us and they deserved our respect."
