Barnsley’s move for Dominik Thalhammer has fallen through, reports Alan Nixon.

Barnsley had identified the Austrian boss as a potential replacement for Neill Collins.

Thalhammer, 53, has been out of the game since his exit from KV Oostende last summer.

As per reporter Nixon on his Patreon, he will not be making the switch to Oakwell at this time due to struggles to get a work permit.

Barnsley move falls through

Barnsley made the decision to cut ties with Collins last week after a poor run of form.

They risked dropping out of the top six and made the call to part ways with their manager and place Martin Devaney in interim charge.

The Tykes drew 1-1 at home to Northampton Town on the final day and that result was enough to cement their place in 6th.

They will now lock horns with Bolton Wanderers in the play-off semi-finals, just like last year, as they look to reach Wembley again.

Barnsley lost to Sheffield Wednesday in the final last time around and will be hoping to avoid a similar outcome.

Their managerial situation is up in the air right now with Devaney looking increasingly likely to be the man to take them into their clashes against the Trotters.

Thalhammer was in charge of the Austria Women’s team from 2011 to 2020 before LASK Linz turned to him.

He spent just over 12 months with the Austrian Bundesliga side and guided them to Europa League qualification.

The Vienna-born man then moved to Belgium and had a spell at Cercle Brugge before moving to Oostende in 2022.

However, they were relegated from the Pro League last term and he stood down from his position.

Barnsley have been linked but it appears the deal has collapsed.
