Leyton Orient first-team coach Matt Harrold will leave at the end of the season to take up a new role at AFC Bournemouth, as announced by their official club website.

Leyton Orient will be losing their backroom staff member this summer as he prepares to move up to the Premier League.

Harrold, 39, has been with the O’s as a coach since retiring from his playing days in 2020.

The League One side have confirmed he will be heading out the exit door after their final two fixtures of this campaign.

Leyton Orient exit

Losing Harrold is a blow for Leyton Orient and his influence will be missed next term.

The O’s will need to find a replacement over the coming months to fill the void left by his impending departure.

He was handed his first coaching role by the London club after hanging up his boots and also had a stint in interim charge in February 2022 after Kenny Jackett’s exit.

Richie Wellens then kept hold of him when he took over at Brisbane Road a couple of years ago and the pair guided the club to promotion from League Two last year. They are now sat in 10th place in the third tier table and have adapted well to the step up a division.

Harrold made 552 appearances in his career as a striker, many of which came in the Football League.

He is a product of the Southend United and went on to have spells at Brentford, Yeovil Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Shrewsbury Town, Bristol Rovers, Crawley Town and Cambridge United.

Leyton Orient signed him in 2017 and he spent three years as a forward, scoring 14 goals in 92 matches altogether.

Harrold played a key role in the O’s promotion from the National League back in 2019 and has been a key man behind the scenes over recent years.

He is now joining Bournemouth in the top flight as he takes the next step of his coaching career.
