'Extreme' – Leyton Orient boss has say on injury situation ahead of Derby County trip

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has labelled their injury situation as ‘extreme’.

Leyton Orient are back in League One action this weekend with an away trip to Pride Park to face promotion chasing Derby County.

The O’s head into that match with a whole host of players sidelined. They drew 2-2 at home to Exeter City on Tuesday night after goals by Ollie O’Neill and George Moncur.

Speaking after the game, Wellens said, as per the official club website: “The lack of bodies we have now, it was severe, it is now extreme.”

He added: “It will be a patched-up team (at Derby). We might give a few more young players an opportunity. We’ll get in training tomorrow, we’ll see the extent of the injuries.”

Leyton Orient injury latest

Leyton Orient have been without the likes of Darren Pratley, Theo Archibald and Dan Happe over recent times.

Defender Brandon Cooper also went off injured for them against Exeter and will have to be assessed now.

It has not been an easy spell for the O’s but they have still managed to have a decent season in the third tier.

They were only promoted from League Two last year and are currently sat in 10th place. They came up with Carlisle United, Northampton Town and Stevenage last term and only the latter have performed better in terms of league position.

Leyton Orient were well in the mix for the play-offs up until the start of this month when they lost back-to-back clashes against Lincoln City and Peterborough United.

They now don’t have much to play for but will be keen to end the campaign on a high as they keep one eye on the summer.

The O’s have a few players out of contract in late June and have some big decisions to make.

Their next opponents Derby are eyeing automatic promotion to the Championship along with Portsmouth and are currently positioned in 2nd above Bolton Wanderers.

The fact Leyton Orient have injury issues is good news for the Rams as they look to get over the line under ex-Rotherham United manager Paul Warne.
