Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has said he wants ‘four or five’ new players this summer.

Leyton Orient are looking to be active on the transfer front when the next window opens.

The O’s are currently sat in 10th place in the League One table following 1-0 loss at home to Fleetwood Town last time out.

Speaking after that loss, Wellens told the official club website: “We need some new players. We need four or five new players who will come in and impact our team. There are certain players who we keep asking them to do things week in, week out, and my patience is wearing thin.”

He added: “If we’re happy to be little, old Leyton Orient and to be finishing 15th, 16th, 17th next year, it would probably be another decent season because next year is probably going to be really, really difficult. I don’t want that. I want to get in the play-offs. I want to be competing at the top end of the league. To do that we need to improve.”

Leyton Orient eyeing reinforcements

Leyton Orient have made great progress under former Doncaster Rovers, Swindon Town and Salford City man Wellens and he deserves to be backed.

The O’s won the League Two title last year so have adapted well to life in the league above this term.

They will be confident that they can push on into the top six next year if they can get their recruitment right over the coming months.

Leyton Orient have some big decisions to make regarding the futures of players who are out of contract in late June. The likes of Ruel Sotiriou, Tom James and Dan Happe see their deals expire very soon.

In addition, loanees like Shaq Forde, Sol Brynn and Idris El Mizouni will be heading back to their parent clubs.

The O’s will have a few voids to fill in their ranks so Wellens will look to use his knowledge and contacts in the Football League to acquire more additions.

Despite performing well in this campaign, Leyton Orient could do with some more quality and some depth on the bench to ensure that they can compete at the top end of the division.

Their loss to Fleetwood Town, who will be playing in the fourth tier next season, was disappointing and highlights the fact they have nothing to play for now.

Wellens’ men have the chance to bounce back on the final this weekend as they head to Shrewsbury Town.
