Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jamie Jones spent six years at Leyton Orient earlier in his career.

Leyton Orient signed the stopper as a youngster from Everton back in 2008.

Jones, who is now 35-years-old, went on to make 179 appearances for the London club in all competitions.

He is ‘likely’ to become a free agent this summer when his contract at Boro expires, as detailed in a report by TeesideLive, and the door could swing open for an emotional return to Brisbane Road.

Who is this?

Leyton Orient should bring back goalkeeper

Leyton Orient will have a vacancy to fill between the sticks when Sol Brynn returns to Middlesbrough when his loan deal expires.

Jones would be an ideal replacement for the Championship man with it looking like he will be leaving after just a year with Michael Carrick’s side.

The O’s took a gamble on him when he was a teenager and he went on to make the number one spot his own after moving down to London.

He owes Leyton Orient a lot for the chance they gave him. Preston North End lured him back up north in 2014 and he was on the books at Deepdale for two seasons.

The Kirby-born man played 20 times for the Lancashire outfit and was loaned out to Coventry City, Rochdale, Colchester United and Stevenage before the latter signed him permanently.

Wigan Athletic then brought him in back in 2017 and played 117 matches for the Latics before switching to Middlesbrough.

Jones helped his previous team win promotion from League One twice during his time there so knows what it takes to get out of that league which is something that would be useful for Leyton Orient.

He would inject more experience into Richie Wellens’ ranks and would provide more competition and depth to their goalkeeping department.

The O’s were promoted from League Two last year and have adapted well to the step up a division. Although they have missed out on the play-offs, it has still been a promising season and they will be eager to build on it.

Leyton Orient have two more fixtures to get through this term against Fleetwood Town at home and Shrewsbury Town away.
