'Something special' – Derby County vs Leyton Orient prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Derby County vs Leyton Orient prediction ahead of the League One clash on Saturday afternoon.

Derby County head into this fixture off the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw away from home against Wycombe Wanderers, missing their chance to strengthen their grip on an automatic promotion spot.

It was not just an underwhelming scoreline, but an underwhelming performance from Paul Warne’s side who quite frankly failed to turn up at Adams Park. The Rams saw a couple of clear-cut opportunities pass them by as they remained 2nd in the table, now allowing Bolton Wanderers to surpass them if they win their game in hand.

Leyton Orient also come into the tie following a draw in their last outing. Despite taking a two-goal lead over Exeter City, the game ended all square at 2-2.

Ollie O’Neill and George Moncur struck for the O’s in either half, but late efforts from Millenic Alli and Tom Carroll ensure the points were shared. They currently sit 10th in League One, now eight points off the play-off spots with three games to go.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Derby are bound to feel frustrated after dropping points against Wycombe, so a response is certainly needed at the weekend.

“The Rams often bounce back after a disappointing result, and back on home soil you would expect them to cause Leyton Orient some problems at Pride Park.

“Richie Wellens’ men have been impressive this campaign following their promotion from League Two last season, although it will take something special to leave Derby with a result on Saturday.

“I do not think it will be a straightforward or routine victory for the Rams as such, although I do expect Warne’s men to pick up a crucial three points.”

Derby County have let things slip with draws while Bolton Wanderers have made up important ground. It puts things back in the hands of Ian Evatt’s side, and it’s down to the Rams to get back to winning ways to stay close.

Leyton Orient are a tough side though. They’ve picked up good results on the road and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they were the latest to hold Derby to a draw.

“The hosts need this though. They should be right up for this as they fight for 2nd and I think they’ll claim an important win.”
