Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle has been tipped to have an ‘amazing’ career by his former teammate Callum Lang.

Wigan Athletic won 2-1 away at Portsmouth against the winger that they sold in the January transfer window.

Tickle, 22, caught the eye at Fratton Park as Luke Chambers and Josh Magennis got themselves on the scoresheet.

Speaking after the game, Lang said, as per a report by The News (via Wigan Today): “I have played with Sam and he is a top keeper, he’s going to have an amazing career.

“At the minute they are playing with that freedom, they are safe, and when they do that they are a really good side.”

Wigan Athletic ace hailed

Wigan Athletic have made Tickle their number one this season and he has been in fine form.

Sunderland have been linked with a swoop for him this summer, as per reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Latics face a battle to keep of him in the next transfer window.

The England youth international, who has represented the Three Lions at Under-21 level, has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

He is under contract at Wigan Athletic until June 2026 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him in the next transfer window unless an offer that they can’t refuse comes in for his signature.

Interest from higher up the football pyramid is inevitable after his impressive campaign.

Tickle has made 51 appearances in all competitions for Shaun Maloney’s side this term and has kept 17 clean sheets.

He was on the books of the Latics’ academy from 2012 to 2018 before he was released. The stopper played for Pilkington in the Cheshire Football League before moving back.

Tickle then had loan spells away in non-league at Warrington Rylands and Nantwich Town to get some more experience under his belt.

Wigan Athletic are unbeaten in their last four fixtures and face Bristol Rovers at home on the final day this weekend.
