AFC Wimbledon loanee Kofi Balmer is wanted by St Mirren, according to a report by the Daily Record.

AFC Wimbledon landed the defender on loan from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.

Balmer, 23, has since made 17 appearances for the League Two side in all competitions.

According to the Daily Record, St Mirren have ‘opened’ talks with his parent club about a permanent summer move.

AFC Wimbledon’s campaign is over and they finished 10th in the table under former Charlton Athletic boss Johnnie Jackson, five points off the play-offs.

Balmer started over the weekend as they battered Walsall 5-1 in their final fixture.

He is now due to return to Crystal Palace and still has a year left on his deal at Selhurst Park. However, his future is up in the air amid reported interest from St Mirren.

The Scottish Premiership outfit will be able to offer him regular game time, which he won’t get with the Eagles. It remains to be seen if AFC Wimbledon are keen on bringing him back in some capacity.

Balmer started his career in his native Northern Ireland with spells at Ballymena United and Larne as a youngster.

Crystal Palace brought him over to England in 2022 but he hasn’t made a senior appearance for the Premier League.

He spent time at Port Vale last term in League One and played 16 games for the Valiants.

Balmer has enjoyed regular minutes with AFC Wimbledon since his winter switch and his performances have alerted the attention of St Mirren. The Buddies are managed by ex-Morecambe manager Stephen Robinson these days.
