The72’s writers offer their Crawley Town vs MK Dons prediction ahead of the League Two play-off semi-final clash on Monday afternoon.

Crawley Town come into their clash with MK Dons having propelled themselves back into the play-off spots on the final day by defeating Grimsby Town 2-0 at Broadfield Stadium.

They were aided by Barrow dropping points in their draw with an already-promoted Mansfield Town.

The Red Devils finished 7th in the League Two table, meaning that they now have the chance to return to League One for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign.

MK Dons, on the other hand, finished 4th in the fourth tier and are targeting an instant return to the third tier having only been relegated last season.

Their last encounter was a thrilling back and forth battle against Sutton United, drawing 4-4 as their opponents went back down to the National League.

Mike Williamson’s side will have been disappointed to miss out on an automatic promotion spot but given the strength of the top three, a 4th place finish is no mean feat.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“The form of both sides heading into this fixture has been up and down, so this one could truly go either way.Home advantage could possibly play a part here, although MK Dons do boast a slightly stronger side in my opinion.

“I expect to see goals, but I can’t see there being too much to split them on this occasion. That would leave it all left to play for in the second leg, setting up a tense tie at Stadium MK.

“My prediction is a score draw.”

Crawley Town have surprised everyone to earn a play-off spot. It’s a testament to the work of Scott Lindsey to have turned many peoples’ favourites for relegation into a bonafide promotion contender.

“However, up against MK Dons, I just think they’re going to come up short.

“Had Williamson been in charge for the full season, I think they’d have earned an automatic promotion spot and avoided the play-offs. That said, I think they’ve got the quality across the squad to go all the way and win the play-offs.

“I’ll back them to get off to an ideal start with an important win in the opening tie.”
