Bradford City defender Brad Halliday is happy to put contract talks on hold for now as they eye a late push into the play-offs.

Bradford City are due to start discussions with the full-back at the end of this season.

Graham Alexander’s side head into their final day clash at home to Newport County this weekend still in with a shout of sneaking into the top seven.

Halliday has said, as per a report by the Telegraph & Argus: “We’ve got one massive game left and will do our best to win it and see where that takes us. If it means delaying the contracts for another couple of weeks, then I’m more than happy. It’s something I got my head round very early on that the talks don’t happen until the last ball is kicked.

“My mindset is clear, it has been all season. Every time I put on the shirt and cross that white line I’ll give 100 per cent for the club, myself and my family. It’s a bridge we’ll cross when we get there.”

Halliday is due to become a free agent at the end of June and can weigh up his options in the meantime.

Losing him for nothing would be a blow for Bradford City as he has been a key player for them over recent times. Therefore, they should try and retain his services.

The North Yorkshire-born man has been named the Bantams’ Player of the Year and is also in the League Two Team of the Season.

Halliday made the switch to Valley Parade in 2022 and has since made 103 appearances in all competitions for his current club, 52 of which have come in this campaign, and he has chipped in with five goals and nine assists.

He is an experienced player in the Football League and has also had spells in the past at Middlesbrough, Cambridge United, Doncaster Rovers and Fleetwood Town.

Bradford City won 3-2 away at Barrow last time out and need to win against Newport County and hope other results go their way in order to get into the play-offs.

Alexander’s men have been in good form recently and are six matches unbeaten right now. They need Crawley Town (against Grimsby Town) and Barrow (against Mansfield Town) to lose tomorrow.
