Bradford City have released former Grimsby Town defender Luke Hendrie, as confirmed on their retained list.

Bradford City have decided to cut ties with the full-back and he will officially depart at the end of next month.

Hendrie, 29, will become a free agent this summer and will have to weigh up his options.

He was a steady player during his days at Grimsby Town and the door has swung open for the Mariners to try and lure him back to Blundell Park for another spell.

Landing Hendrie would be a shrewd move by Grimsby Town and he would bolster their defensive department ahead of next term.

The Mariners were too close to the League Two drop zone for comfort in this past campaign and will want to be competing higher up the table next year.

They managed to survive under former Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell and he will be eager to put his own stamp on the squad over the next couple of months.

Hendrie was a consistent performer during his first stint at Grimsby Town and made 121 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with five goals.

He is experienced in the Football League and has played over 250 games in his career to date.

That know-how would come in handy for the Mariners as they look to progress over the next couple of years.

Hendrie has also played for the likes of Manchester United, Derby County, Burnley, Shrewsbury Town and Hartlepool United in the past.

Bradford City snapped him up in 2022 on a two-year deal and he played only 22 times for the Bantams.

They have made the decision to let him leave now as they gear up for the next campaign under Graham Alexander. The Yorkshire club missed out on the play-offs on the final day.
