In a recent report, Tuttumercatoweb stated that Aston Villa are leading the race to land Lille striker Jonathan David. It has been claimed that the Villans are in pole position to acquire the services of the Canadian forward this summer.

David’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1 This Season

David has enjoyed a solid campaign at the French club after producing a series of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The 24-year-old has banged in 24 goals and earned eight assists in 44 matches for Lille this season in all competitions.

The Canadian talent has caught the eye in the final third as he is averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 81.8% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the French club will expire at the end of next season. Therefore, Aston Villa could potentially recruit him on the cheap in the upcoming transfer window.

Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Snap David Up?

David is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can even create the odd chance for his teammates up top. The Canadian talent is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football.

David would bring plenty of firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at Villa Park next season. Plus, Emery could be the ideal man to unlock the best out of the player at the West Midlands club in the coming years.

At 24, David has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good option for the Villans to pursue at the end of this campaign. He might even help Aston Villa compete across all fronts in the future. Thus, it makes sense for Emery to try everything in his power to snap David up this summer.
