Rangers player ratings v St Mirren

Philippe Clement wanted more from his team going in to the final games of the season but will be looking forward to getting his own players capable of carrying out his game plan, this is how the players scored:

Jack Butland – 8

Only player to come out of the game with his reputation in tact.

Stunning first-half save was the latest in a long line that deserved better from the players in front of him.

James Tavernier – 7

Didn’t offer anywhere near enough in the final third, at this stage of the season, this is when he should be driving his team on.

When he did though, his cross for Cyriel Dessers was inch perfect.

Borna Barisic – 4

Looked like a player who is leaving in the summer and seems to be getting slower every time he puts a Rangers jersey on.

Leon Balogun – 5

The one strength that sets Balogun above all our other centre-halves saw him cost Rangers a goal failing to deal with a back post cross in the air.

John Souttar – 5

Philippe Clement’s only real mistake in the last two weeks seems to be insisting on playing Souttar on the left instead of the right.

Could be the next to spend a period on the bench.

John Lundstram – 5

Too deep, too ineffective.

Needs to let the centre-halves do their job and build play from the back, allowed St Mirren’s midfield far too much space.

Todd Cantwell – 7

Didn’t get a lot of quality ball in good positions but he got into some good positions and, at least, offered a threat until he was replaced by Tom Lawrence.

Mohamed Diomande – 8

Rangers best midfielder.

Two assists for the young Ivorian and tried to drag the defence and midfield higher up the park.

Fabio Silva – 4

He’s not a winger and it might be that Clement has to play a “weaker” player who is more of a natural in the role, just not offering anything.

Cyriel Dessers – 9

Continues to get into good positions and took his header well, nearly scored the opener but did enough to panic James Bolton into firing into his own net.

Should have had an assist for Tom Lawrence but for incredible defending.

Dujon Sterling – 7

Again, he’s not a winger but put in a shift at both ends of the park.

Moved to left-back and got on with the job as he normally does to good effect.

Substitutes

Ross McCausland – 5

Whether he is low on confidence or not, the young winger needs to be braver in possession.

Tom Lawrence –

Couple of nice runs and fired over after creating the space for a shot.

So unlucky not to add a second in injury time.

Scott Wright – 5

Hardly touched the ball.
