Stoke City are ready to make a summer move for Rotherham United goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, reporter Alan Nixon has revealed.

Stoke City look as though they’ve done enough to hold onto their place in the Championship.

Steven Schumacher and co won’t be taking their foot off the gas until it is mathematically confirmed, but those behind the scenes at the Bet365 Stadium will have an eye on potential transfer targets for the summer transfer window.

Now, it is claimed they could swoop on relegated Rotherham United to keep one of their most influential players in the division.

Stoke City target Johansson

Reporter Alan Nixon has written on his Patreon that Stoke City are targeting a summer move for goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, who has impressed once again in the Championship despite the Millers’ struggles.

Amid Johansson’s starring performances as Rotherham United’s relegation, reports of a release clause have emerged. Nixon states the fee is around £1m, while reports elsewhere have cited a sum of £750,000.

Regardless, a deal would present an opportunity at a bargain for the Potters as they look to find a long-term solution to their goalkeeping situation.

Who is this?

A deserved Championship stay

Five clean sheets and 85 goals conceded in 44 Championship games doesn’t make for good reading on paper. However, had it not been for Johansson, you can’t help but feel it could have been a lot worse for Rotherham United on many occasions.

It’s no surprise that his efforts have caught the eyes of other clubs such as Stoke City. The Swede is a proven player at Championship level and relegation to League One means it’s highly likely that he stays in the second-tier.

Loanee Daniel Iversen has been the starting ‘keeper with Stoke but with their no.1 shirt bouncing between a few different shot-stoppers in recent seasons, a move for Johansson could give them a long-term option.
