Arsenal’s set pieces proved crucial once again today as they once again mastered the art of scoring from dead-ball situations.

A lot has been made of Arsenal’s ability to score from them this season and in the first 45 minutes, they once again did the business as an own goal then a Kai Havertz header had them cruising.

For Mikel Arteta, these sorts of details are what makes him tick and he has seen his team enjoy huge success from dead-ball positions all season long.

Of course, key to Arsenal being so good from set-pieces has been the appointment of a specialist set-piece coach.

Arteta brought over Nicolas Jover from Manchester City and it’s proven a masterstroke this season.

And as Jover was celebrating wildly with Mikel Arteta when the opening goal went in, Gary Neville found time on co-comms to single him out.

Commenting on Jover’s role at the club, Neville labelled the Arsenal coach as a ‘nuisance’.

"He's a little nuisance that set-piece coach but he's damn good, and they’ve done it again here,” Neville said.

How many goals have Arsenal scored from set-pieces this season?

Arsenal are becoming known for being brilliant from corners, free-kicks, and everything else that goes with those situations.

Up until today, the Gunners had scored an impressive 15 from set-pieces. Liverpool top the table on 17 but obviously, with those two in the first 45 at Spurs today, it sends Arsenal level with the Reds. (Whoscored)

It’s quite remarkable really that so many goals have come from such situations.

Clearly, it has paid dividends for Arsenal to bring in a specialist coach in this area and if they do end up winning the league, they can point to this as being a crucial element of their success.

Nicolas Jover has been integral for the Gunners and among all the big money signings, he might end up being one of the most valuable Mikel Arteta has ever made.
